What
do you love about the Global Trader Drak Challenge?
The cleanest river with some of the best rapids surrounded by the
beauty of the Drakensberg.
Describe your favourite memory at the event.
Paddling away from both Len and Hank in the final 4km of the race
but in two separate years.
What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you on the
river?
While tripping on a near flooded river I jumped out of my boat at
Black Murray and my boat got swept away from me. I had sprint along
the bank and chase it for about 3km before Mike Arthur eventually
got into an eddy for me.
Why do you choose to enter the Global Trader Drak Challenge?
It is the best river in the country. Even if I had no boat I would
still get hold of a tube just so that I could go down the river.
Which spots on the river do you watch out for?
Through the top gorge on day 1 you need to look sharp, there are so
many rapids where you can either lose or make up time depending on
how well you know your lines.
Which is your favourite rapid / obstacle?
I'm not sure if it has a name? it is above Black Murray and it is
one of the longest rapids in the race. It is fast flowing, rocky and
pretty technical and reminds me very much of a rapid from the
Lowveld Croc.
What is your best result competing in the Global Trader Drak
Challenge?
Crossing the line in 1st place!
Will you be entering this year’s race and what are your goals?
I will be entering and will do my best to try and win.
What advice could you give novice paddlers on the river?
The more time you are able to spend paddling the river before the
race the more confident you will feel when you take on the rapids
come race day.
When I’m not paddling on the Global Trader Drak Challenge weekend
– I’m …
at the physio trying to fix all of my little niggles so that I can
gat back into my boat again.
