Mkhulu Low

At the start of the Lower Gorge, Mkhulu is tricky at every level. When it is full to very full, it is a massive drop with many concealed rocks to be careful of. This video is shot at a low level as it gives you a very good idea of where the rocks are. The paddler in the K1 is spot on line, sliding over a rock in the approaches and then sliding down the line where most of the water flows. Go very slowly!

Pro Tip

There is a second option down the left of the rapid. if you see a lot of traffic stuck in the main line, paddle past them and look for the water flow going down the drop close to the bottom of the rockfield.
