Mkhulu Full

Mkhulu is the big rapid at the start of the Lower Gorge. It is preceded by a series of smaller drops before arriving at the massive rockpile that forms this rapid. Shot during the 2009 race, at this level it is far straighter affair, with options to go down the rapid one third from the right, or left of centre. At any level it is rocky, so it is important to approach it, pick a line and paddle steadily to avoid drama from glancing off rocks. The easy portage option is on the right hand bank.
